Mini-Monster Camp

Storybooks Come to Life

Explore some of your favorite stories and give the characters life! This camp will include projects based on Where the Wild Things Are, Corduroy, If you give a Pig a Pancake, the world of Dr. Seuss and so much more! Spend a week with us inside your favorite books!

Under the Sea Camp

Travel through the depths of the ocean with fun art activities while learning about this unique environment and the creatures that live there. Sculpt, paint, and draw your way through an undersea expedition!

Creepy Crawlies Camp

Shrink down and experience the wide world of insects from grasshoppers to butterflies and caterpillars. This camp will include paintings of bugs, collage bugs and even butterfly rings and pencil toppers.

Art Around Town Camp Painting & Drawing Week

Ages: 7 – 12
Instructors: Natalie Tritt & Kate Toensmeyer

Art Around Town is a collaboration between the Fitton Center for Creative Arts, the YMCA, and Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park & Museum. This camp combines exciting arts experiences with physical activities, both indoors and outdoors! Participants will be introduced to art instruction including drawing, painting, sculpture and building, using new and recycled materials to create, and see nature as an artist views it. Throughout the day, YMCA staff will lead energizing physical games and activities. Daily drop-off/pick-up location is the Fitton Family YMCA; transportation to other locations is provided.

Fantasy Lands & Exciting Journeys

Ages: 7 – 12
Instructor: Laura Leavitt

Do you love stories set on Mars, in magical worlds with elves and ogres, or in secret underground cites? In this camp, you’ll brainstorm through improvisation games to start designing your own imaginative universe. You will learn techniques for writing dialogue, strong characters, surprising plot twists, and more. By the end of the camp, you’ll have a field guide to your world and at least one short story written, with many ideas on how to move yourself forward as a writer! We’ll even learn how to publish your work out in the world for others to read.

Students will incorporate the concept of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) to invent a variety of toys, games and simple machines. Inventions will include a catapult, marble maze, “robotic hand,” a coloring robot and more!

Colorful Creations Camp

Ages: 7 – 12

Immerse yourself in a world of beautiful colors! This camp will teach the basics of creating mosaics using a variety of unique materials. Campers will have the opportunity to create their own individual mosaics along with working as a group to design and create a large scale mosaic using recycled plastic bottle caps. Learn basic design elements needed in creating mosaics such as how to cut and shape tiles and how to grout a finished artwork.

Learn to take better pictures and improve your photographic skills in this fun and creative camp! Your photographs. Your ideas. Your narrative. Your message. Get creative! We’ll bring it all together to tell your story in photographs. Please bring your digital camera or phone with batteries, charger, any cords and manuals, and three favorite photos you have taken in the last year.

Creating Art From Broken Pieces

Ages: 12 – 18

In this camp we will learn the basics of creating mosaics using a variety of mediums. Learn about the tools used in crafting mosaics. Discover how to cut stained glass and other materials to create shapes that will be used in your own mosaic. Explore how to select colors and types of tesserae. Learn how to glue tiles to a base and grout your mosaic artwork.

Prepare for the school year with the skills you need to make the year successful! This camp will present study skills, techniques, and tools to fuel creative and critical thinking for today’s digital generation. Students will learn how to increase their learning potential and think beyond what they hear in the classroom, what to do when they can’t understand their textbook, how to take notes to improve their understanding, and how to use computers and technology as learning machines.
