“That Christmas would live in our memories as the year we were introduced to Chinese turkey. And all is right with the world.” – A Christmas Story
Hamilton, Ohio – Nobody shot their eyes out.
However, a few people laughed their heads off.
The Fitton Center for Creative Arts hosted about 70 guests affiliated with the Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities for a free sensory-friendly screening of the 1983 film comedy, A Christmas Story, Thursday, December 12.
The two organizations first teamed up for sensory-friendly screenings in 2018 and last year offered Tim Allen’s The Santa Clause for its holiday movie.
“Sharing the real joy and fun of a theater experience with our friends and partners is absolutely amazing,” said Ian MacKenzie-Thurley, Fitton Center Executive Director. “It’s maybe the most joyful thing we do all year. Our guests bring a wonderful energy to the theater. They laugh and cheer and have a great time.”
“The Fitton Center is for everyone. It’s for the entire community. We want everyone and their families to always feel welcome and be a part of what we’re doing. This is an important piece of our mission to build community excellence through the arts.”
The film screening comes near the end of a successful run of holiday programming that also included Sacksteder Interiors with Decorating for Christmas for the December 4 Celebrating Self luncheon and The SunBurners Party Band with Calypso Christmas for Fitton Family Fridays on December 6.
Just Vince and Fellas close the holiday performance schedule with the sold-out A Motown & More Christmas performance in the Fitton Showstoppers series Saturday, December 14.
There’s more to come in the new year. January at the Fitton Center features West Chester author Randy Turner talking about Classic TV for Celebrating Self on January 8, 2025. Fitton Family Fridays presents Freddy Fossil in The Dino Show January 17 and the Phil DeGreg Trio pays tribute to Vince Guaraldi with Good Grief! in the Jazz & Cabaret series opener January 18. Tickets to all upcoming shows are available online at fittoncenter.org, by phone at 513-863-8873 ext. 110 or in person at the Fitton Center box office.
The Fitton Center for Creative Arts is located at 101 S. Monument Avenue on the Riverfront in downtown Hamilton, Ohio.
