Dino Show returns

Hamilton, Ohio – Retro rocks.

Doubly true in the case of Freddie Fossil’s “Dino Show,” coming to Fitton Family Fridays January 17, 2025.

Not only does the subject matter of dinosaurs span countless millennia, but the way Fossil presents the material is a throwback, too. “Dino Show” harkens back to the heyday of live variety shows playing in grand theaters.

“We went to these big benefit shows when I was a kid,” he said. “I was fascinated by the Master of Ceremonies at the Palace (in downtown Cincinnati). He was in charge of the whole show.”

Much like Fossil today.

“It’s not a lecture,” he said. “I’m not a professor. I’m just an off-the-wall paleontologist with a sense of humor. I use all the performing arts to tell a story.

“It’s funny, it’s fast moving and it’s audience participation. There are multiple levels – comedy, education, puppetry, music, magic – that all come together to form one show.”

While dinosaurs have been extinct for millions of years, their popularity – especially with children – remains alive and well.

“Kids are not afraid on any level of dinosaurs,” Fossil said. “When I started this show, some people thought some of the dinosaurs puppets were going to be too realistic. But you could take Freddy Kruger and call him a dinosaur and kids would want to give him a hug.”

That enduring popularity is further evidenced by the fact this is Fossil’s second time bringing “Dino Show” to the Fitton Center, reprising a 2020 visit immediately prior to the pandemic.

“I always enjoy interacting with the kids,” he said. “There’s always a surprise. A question, a comment, a reaction. Something I haven’t seen before. Some of what the kids have told me over the years about dinosaurs has actually gone into in the show.

“Just about every kid has a favorite dinosaur and knows everything about it. It’s a great relationship with the audience that we can be teaching and learning from one another.”

Tickets to Dino Show are $8 for Fitton Center members, $10 for non-members and are available online right here through January 5. If any remain, they also will be available by phone at 513-863-8873, ext. 110 or in person at the Fitton Center Box office starting January 6.

The Fitton Center for Creative Arts is located at 101 S. Monument Avenue on the Riverfront in downtown Hamilton, Ohio.
