Fitton Center certified accessible

Hamilton, Ohio – The Fitton Center for Creative Arts recently earned “Destination Verified” status in partnership with Travel Butler County and Wheel the World.

Travel Butler County has long been committed to making Butler County a welcoming spot for all travelers. Wheel the World is a travel solution that allows users to book hotels and find information and activities that best match their accessibility needs.

TBC worked with Wheel the World to make Butler County the first Destination Verified location in the state of Ohio.

The Fitton Center – along with more than 70 other hotels, attractions and businesses around the county - went through a series of evaluations to earn the designation. Wheel the World's expert mapper spent several weeks in Butler County conducting assessments to provide detailed and accurate information to ensure inclusive travel experiences for visitors with physical, cognitive and invisible disabilities.

“This made perfect sense for us,” said Fitton Center Executive Director Ian MacKenzie-Thurley. “We were already in the process of evaluating our building and making it more accessible when Travel Butler County presented this opportunity.

“We have always been ADA compliant, but those are minimum standards. We’re doing what we can to make sure our guests can – and do – enjoy their Fitton Center experience in a safe, accessible and inclusive facility that ensures all are welcome and all are comfortable here.

“We hope this designation – both here at the Fitton Center and across Butler County – will encourage more people to come and take a look at our community.”

More than 15 million American travelers with a disability take at least one trip per year and travel with at least one companion. Travelers with disabilities generate more than $120 billion in annual economic impact worldwide.

Most of those travelers - 8 out of 10, in fact - cite the need for increased information on accessibility prior to visiting their destinations.

With the Wheel the World Destination Verified designation, The Fitton Center and Butler County are better positioned to welcome all visitors and further enhance the impact of tourism on local communities, hotels, attractions and businesses.

The Fitton Center for Creative Arts is located at 101 S. Monument Avenue on the Riverfront in downtown Hamilton, Ohio.
