Getting engaged

Hamilton, Ohio – Another weekend, another set of big crowds making crafts.

Just a couple weeks after connecting with more than 3,000 people during Operation Pumpkin, the Fitton Center for Creative Arts Community Engagement team attended a pair of events over the weekend, serving another 800 people.

First up, the Liberty Center Monster Mash ran 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, October 26. While Fitton at the Foundry classes were between fall sessions (new classes begin at the satellite studio location Tuesday, October 29), the engagement crew set up shop outdoors on a perfect autumn afternoon and connected with 372 visitors.

“We made Jack-O-Lantern magnets out of recycled CDs,” said Caroline Digiovenale, assistant director of education and outreach. “I love this craft. It’s fun and fits the season. But it’s also great to have a use for all the old discs people keep around after they’ve switched to streaming or some other form of digital media.”

Then on Sunday, October 27, even more people came out in less time for Trick or Treat at the Nook, Spooky Nook’s Halloween from 1 to 3 p.m.

The engagement team handed out candy to 416 guests, many of whom turned their treats into little ghosts.

“Both of these were first-time events for us,” Digiovenale said. “We had two great days and the events themselves went smoothly. It was great to see and connect with so many people in such a short time.”

The engagement team has a little time to replenish its supplies and dream up some new ideas for coming appearances.

Next up, look for us from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, November 23 in Marcum Park for the annual Holly Jolly Hamilton tree lighting ceremonies.

“This is one of our favorites every year,” Digiovenale said. “We have crafts. We have hot cocoa. It might be cold outside, but it’s always a fun event to kick off the holiday season.”

Until then, please enjoy some photos from this past weekend at Liberty Center and Spooky Nook in the gallery below.

The Fitton Center for Creative Arts is located at 101 S. Monument Avenue on the Riverfront in downtown Hamilton, Ohio.
