Historic First

West Chester, Ohio – Doors opened. Children came. They made art.

And history.

The Fitton Center for Creative Arts launched the first-ever class at its new Fitton at the Foundry satellite location at Liberty Center Tuesday, September 10, with Kids Drawing & Painting.

Instructor Bell Day welcomed 10 boys and girls ages 5 to 9 to the 6 p.m. class, went through the ground rules, handed out supplies and started creating.

Happy chatter filled the 2,500-square-foot Foundry studio as students drew on, cut out and glued paper together. Several parents observed – and chatted among themselves – from chairs on the sides of the room.

Afterward, Marina Villegas from Liberty Center neighbor Sugary Clouds invited the kids down the hallway for an artistic cotton candy treat from their super-cool (although 200 degrees Celsius hot) spun sugar 3-D printer.

Perfect capper to an important day for the Fitton Center.

“We’re not leaving Hamilton,” said Executive Director Ian MacKenzie-Thurley. “Hamilton was, is and always will be our home base. But this is an important day – an important week - for us as we branch out deeper into Butler County.

“We grateful for this partnership with Liberty Center and we look forward to growing it together. It’s been a long time in the works and we’re thrilled to finally get started.”

The Butler County community agreed.

One social media post said, “The impact you're making is legendary. Keep up the amazing work!” Another simply said, “Extraordinary!”

The inaugural run of Fitton at the Foundry classes continues Wednesday, September 11, with its first adult offering, Watercolor Basics. The initial senior class – Creative Aging Mosaics – for ages 50 and up starts Thursday, September 12.

Those same three classes will repeat for the Fall II education session beginning the last week of October. Registration is open now; early-bird pricing runs through October 21.

Meantime, enjoy some photos from the first class (and treat time) in the gallery below.

The Fitton Center for Creative Arts is located at 101 S. Monument Avenue on the Riverfront in downtown Hamilton, Ohio.
