Hamilton, Ohio – The Story Collective is a new arts organization based in Northern Cincinnati with a mission to create community engagement through artistic excellence.
Not coincidentally, The Fitton Center has a similar mission statement: Building Community Excellence through the Arts and Culture.
So when TSC was searching for a place to perform, the Fitton Center – with its 239-seat theater and all the amenities it includes, from technical capabilities to green room space – became a logical choice.
Also similar to the Fitton Center, TSC is not a one-trick pony. Founded only a year ago, the company quickly created opportunities for artists and art lovers through performance – yes – but also with education, outreach and collaboration.
As the arts come back stronger than ever from the pandemic, TSC decided its return to the stage would be best served with a musical about musicals.
Enter The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!), a hilarious satire of musical theater by Joanne Bogart and Eric Rockwell. One story becomes five delightful mini-musicals, each written in the distinctive styles of a different legendary composer or team – Rogers & Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Andrew Lloyd Weber and Kander & Ebb.
Theatre lovers will get a kick out of seeing how many references are jam-packed into this show while enjoying the talents of its versatile four-person cast - Will Ellis, Gabe Hoyer, Susan Jung and Kayla Stroud - and pianist Mark Femia.
Ed Cohen directs, with music direction by Femia and choreography by Maria Huey. Jim Jung serves as technical director.
The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!) is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals and runs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, through Saturday, May 14; there are additional performances at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, and Sunday, May 15. Please visit www.thestorycollective.org/tickets for more information and to purchase tickets.
Opening Night, May 10, includes post-show reception with the cast and creative team to celebrate a successful performance, as well as the one-year anniversary of The Story Collective’s inception.
