Hamilton, OH - One of the most popular exhibitions in Fitton Center gallery history draws to a close next week.
The 2024 FotoFocus Biennial exhibition - We > Me: 17 Artists Explore Hamilton Neighborhoods – ends public viewing at 3 p.m. Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 24.
While the art won’t come off the walls before January 3, 2025 – as all the show’s advertising stated - it won’t be on display after December 24, either. The Fitton Center closes for the holidays until the first full week of the new year.
The exhibition enjoyed a terrific run, starting with its gallery-opening celebration and an artists’ talk October 19. Hundreds attended the opening and the crowds kept coming, including more than a dozen guided tours and field trips.
“The creativity and talent on display in this artwork is genuinely stunning,” said Fitton Center Executive Director Ian MacKenzie-Thurley. “It’s been amazing to see how personally people have connected to this exhibition. To see how each neighborhood is different, but comes together with the others to tell one Hamilton story.”
“In an era of troubling division, this exhibition encouraged connections,” said Fitton Center Director of exhibitions Cathy Mayhugh. “Responding to the 2024 FotoFocus Biennial theme – backstories - each selected artist spent time in their assigned neighborhoods this spring and summer, photographing and recording glimpses of how and where we live, work and play.
“They did it in distinct and universal ways, domestically, socially and communally. Their work reflects both the individual personalities of each artist and each neighborhood, but also illustrates many common bonds shared across the city.”
Galleries are always free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays unless otherwise noted. Guests may arrange off-hours tours by request through Mayhugh at 513-863-8873 ext. 122.
Next up in the Fitton Center galleries is the Beauty and the Beast exhibition. Four different artists offer alluring figures, vistas and forms filled with hidden meanings, contradictory moods and undercurrents of anxiety.
Beauty and the Beast goes on view Saturday, February 1, 2025 – with a gallery opening celebration from 5:30 to 730 p.m. that evening in conjunction with the Fitton Showstoppers Classic Country performance – and runs through March 21.
The Fitton Center for Creative Arts is located at 101 S. Monument Avenue on the Riverfront in downtown Hamilton, Ohio.
